Takpa BOUTORA’s achievement

The decision 10773/D/P of 30th September 1950 of the Governor of the Legion of Honour, Republic Representative, Mr Takpa BOUTORA was instructed with the creation of a local at Patatoukou in Akposso(plateaux region in Togo).


A classroom with a roof of straw was built by the Blacks under the supervision of the new teacher : a new public school was created at Patatoukou. Fourty two (42) pipuls started the first class of primary schoo. The photo below show shows the young teacher Takpa before the classroom he had other Blacks build under the decision of the gouvernor of colonies.

Three years after the creation of the school at Patatoukou, there were same graduates as show the photo (the teacher Takpa in dark dress).

The course of the teacherTakpa shows how and the condition in which the first Black elite has spread knowledge in the french colonies, especially in Togo ; at that time, Togo was part of French West Africa (AOF) and had access to independence in 27th april 1960.

In 1955 the teacher Takpa was appointed manager of Gando School (Savane region). There, he tought pupils of third and fourth class.
In november 1958, two years before the independence of Togo, as Headmaster of Boufalé School (Pagouda), teacher Takpa received a grant for a three-month training in France (cf memory photos).
